Liberty Market in Gilbert, AZ

Liberty Market, located at 230 N. Gilbert Rd in historic downtown Gilbert, is the new restaurant by Joe Johnson (Joe’s Farm & Grill, Joe’s BBQ).  I’ve eaten here 3 times since it opened in Nov. 2008.  I’m writing this post in November 2008 – so yes, I’ve been here 3 times in it’s opening month!  Liberty Market has a hip, Italian vibe to it.  I personally love paninis so each time I go I’m trying a different “pressed sandwhich”.  My favorite so far has been the Arizona Sky for $7.50.  You can find their website and menu here. Also, when you go – check out ALL the bathrooms.  Seriously, open every door…the bathrooms alone deserve a blog post! – Becky

OFFICIAL VISITOR GUIDE TO PHOENIX ARIZONA

My Favorite things to do & see around the valley…

1 – Fountain Hills, AZ: Go have lunch, drive around, enjoy the amazing views. 30 min drive from Gilbert. 15 min drive from Scottsdale.

2 – Tempe Marketplace: Window shop, see a movie, eat out. I’m not much of a shopper – but I won’t pass up an invite to hang out here.

3 – Downtown: A day of museums, antique/vintage shops, 2 hour wait for a *worth it* seat at Pizzeria Bianco.

Before my career in Real Estate, I was a Concierge for a 4 diamond resort.  So, if I can be of service to you with dining recommendations, resort recommendations, or general city information – please don’t hesitate to ask.

Good Sushi in Gilbert

It exists!  My husband and I have been driving 40 min to go to a great sushi restaurant – Akai Hana (also known as Mr. Sushi) in Phoenix (8041 N Black Canyon Hwy, Phoenix, AZ 85021 ).  But, finally we have found a good sushi restaurant closer to home.  Sushi Ave. is located in the NW corner of Guadalupe and Higley.  866 N. Higley Rd. #101, Gilbert, AZ 85234.

The atmosphere is chic with low-light candles on the tables and a granite counter sushi bar.  Every hostess and sushi chef greets you when you arrive and thanks you when you leave.  I heard that the manager of Sushi Ave. used to work for RA  – an upscale and typically overpriced restaurant chain.

My husband likes to order the Sashimi (truly raw pieces of Tuna, Salmon, Crab, Red Snapper etc.)  I prefer the rolls – often cooked.  My favorite at Sushi Ave. is the “Caterpillar Roll” that has a sweet terriaki-like sauce.  The California Rolls are also really fresh and crisp.  We also tend to order the Edamame (edible soybeans with sea salt) and the hot green tea.

Feel welcome to post a comment with your own review of Sushi Ave.

Flancer’s Restaurant, best hot sandwiches around!

Flancer’s might be Gilbert’s best kept secret.  I suppose they are no longer a secret since Flancer’s won 2003 best East Valley sandwich…but I still like to think of them as a special secret.Flancer'sThis casual restaurant has a huge menu and a friendly staff.  Flancer’s is open 10:30am-9pm everyday and is located in Gilbert’s downtown area at 610 N. Gilbert Road (South of Guadalupe Road). A big sandwich, their homemade PERFECT french fries and a drink is a whopping $10.75 or so. They have pizza, burgers and fun appetizers.  I love their hot sandwiches.  I tend to order the same two over and over.  1- the perfect “prickly” pear (sweet prickly spear glazed chicken!) 2 – It’s about thyme (balsamic-thyme chicken with mushrooms, provalone and a basil-mayo!)  My husband almost always gets the Philly Cheese-steak.  This is a popular joint, so don’t be surprised if a Saturday night you might have to wait 10 minutes for a table.  Flancer’s makes their own bread, has a takeout option, and if a whole sandwich is too big – try a half!  Big thanks to Meg for taking me there for the first time!
